Absolutely Brilliant From Stevie!

29 Apr 2006 Liverpool 3-1 Aston Villa - EPL

Liverpoolfc.tv - Liverpool have won their 10th consecutive game and are level on points with 2nd placed Manchester United after a goal from Fernando Morientes and two from Steven Gerrard gave them a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield.

BBC - The visitors were behind after just four minutes when Morientes placed a shot past Thomas Sorensen. But Villa gave Liverpool a huge shock on 58 minutes when Aaron Hughes' cross reached Gareth Barry, who touched in. Barry's equaliser was the spark for Gerrard's masterclass, the Liverpool captain scoring at the near post and then crashing a shot past Sorensen.

Rafa: "Gerrard made the difference today for us and always you need players with his quality for winning. I would like to say thank you to the supporters as they were behind us all game and I am happy to win for them in our final home game of the season."

30 Apr 2006
Stevie: "I've been quite successful and things are going well, but I want more trophies and winners' medals and I believe I will achieve that with Liverpool. It was a big decision to stay at Liverpool, but I made that decision on the basis that I felt we had the right manager in charge in Rafa Benitez and I haven't regretted that for a moment. I believe in him and have full confidence in him. I know I can achieve my ambitions at Liverpool. There's only one thing missing from my collection and that's The Premiership. That's the one I badly want and I know the fans do too but that doesn't mean I don't want others. I'm very greedy for trophies."

Garcia Will Miss The Cup Final

26 Apr 2006 West Ham 1-2 Liverpool - EPL

BBC - Garcia appeared to aim an elbow in Mullins' back before going to ground after a shove by his rival as they jostled for the ball after 82 minutes. Earlier, Cisse had powered in an angled 20-yard drive to put the Reds ahead. West Ham responded when Nigel Reo-Coker tapped in before Cisse squirmed a shot home to earn the visitors a win.

BBC - Mullins & Garcia out of Cup final - The Football Association has turned down appeals from West Ham and Liverpool for wrongful dismissal for Hayden Mullins and Luis Garcia.

Benitez: "Luis is very disappointed. I said to him after the game that he had made a big mistake as you can't lose your control before important games."
"It is a big blow for us as he is a player who scores goals on important occasions. He can change a game and so of course we are going to miss him in Cardiff."

Greatest Joy Of The Season

22 Apr 2006 Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool - FA Cup Semi-final

Liverpoolfc.tv - The Reds will now play the winners of West Ham and Middlesbrough after beating Jose Mourinho's side for the first time this season. And Chelsea, expected to be crowned Premiership Champions next week, can have no complaints because they were soundly beaten.

BBC - Didier Drogba missed two gilt-edged chances for Chelsea before John Arne Riise's free-kick put the Reds ahead. Luis Garcia brilliantly half-volleyed in from 20 yards to extend Liverpool's lead but Drogba headed in to set up an enthralling end to the game. Chelsea then put their rivals under siege and Joe Cole blazed a late chance over as Liverpool clung on for the win.

Carra: "We can beat them in cup competitions. But they are the best team in the league and they are a better team than us, we are not going to argue about that because the table doesn't lie. But we have cut the gap on them this season and we aim to cut it again next season, and we are closer. But it is only in one-off games."
"We haven't got a great record against them, we have only won two out of 10 but those two wins are the most important ones. We have won the very big ones, the Champions League semi and now this FA Cup semi."

Riise: "That goal went a long way to making up for the fact that I scored in a final against Chelsea last season and didn't finish on the winning side. Now it will be my first FA Cup final and I can't wait."
"I felt in the hotel before the game that I would score in the semi-final. We had been working on the free-kick for the last couple of days. I said to Steven I wanted to take it. I could see that Ferreira thought I was going to put it round the wall, I could see him moving to his right to anticipate what he thought was going to be a curled effort. So it was a fantastic feeling to score after putting my effort between the two players on the end of the wall."

Garcia: "All I can say is there was no doubt that one was over the line, for sure. It has been a little disappointing that the issue of that goal keeps coming up, but I have not let it bother me. Now I've got another against Chelsea."
"I must admit when Joe Cole had that chance and missed, it reminded me of last season in the Champions League semi-final when Gudjohnsen missed one very late in that match."
Gerrard: "The funny thing about Luis is that he misses the easy ones and then scores from 30 yards. But that doesn't bother me, not as long as he keeps scoring goals like he did in this semi-final. He has scored a lot of great goals for us in very important matches, I can put up with that."

Gerrard: "We're progressing. We know Chelsea are a fantastic side with a lot of money behind them and they can go out there and buy whoever they want. But Rafa's building something here. We're a very strong team and I think Mourinho should stand up and give us a bit of respect. And I still think we can improve more, both individually and as a team. We can all improve."

And I can't believe this.....
Mourinho: "We beat them in a final, they beat us in two semi-finals. A psychological advantage? I don't think so." ↓(Chelsea boss Bitch slaps Lampard)

"I cannot wish them luck in the final. Middlesbrough or West Ham will be there and I must respect them."
"I wish them luck for their qualification match in the Champions League."
......You see that? WHAT A LOSER!

Was It Onside?

16 Apr 2006 Blackburn 0-1 Liverpool -EPL

BBC - Robbie Fowler scored his fourth goal in five games to extend Liverpool's winning run to seven matches. Fowler slotted into an open net from Fernando Morientes' pass after the offside Djibril Cisse was adjudged not to have interfered with play. Cisse could have doubled the Reds' lead on the stroke of half time but Brad Friedel turned his strike onto the bar. Blackburn piled on the pressure in the second half as Liverpool retreated but failed to seriously trouble Jose Reina.

Happy Birthday Robbie

9 Apr 2006 Liverpool 1-0 Bolton - EPL

BBC - Robbie Fowler's goal proved enough for Liverpool to rack up a fifth successive Premiership win as Bolton suffered a fourth straight loss.
The main talking point of a tepid first half looked like being Steven Gerrard's rejected penalty claim until Fowler found the net in stoppage time.
After half-time, Xavi Alonso hit the post before Pepe Reina raced to the edge of his box to deny Kevin Davies.
As the game wore on, there was little danger of Bolton staging a comeback.

Xabi's Passing - Just Perfect!

1 Apr 2006 West Brom 0-2 Liverpool - EPL

BBC - A defensive error allowed Reds striker Robbie Fowler to tap-in at the far post from Djibril Cisse's cross after just six minutes. The lacklustre home side were further punished when Cisse slotted in after Xabi Alonso's 60-yard pass.

Rafa: "In the second half we were a bit under pressure but we have done a good job and it's a good result for us. It worked well for us using the pace of Cisse on the right wing and with Xabi Alonso's passing ability it was perfect. We need to keep going now until the end and keep winning games. You can't say it will be impossible to finish second because you don't know what can happen. We are sure we will finish third but maybe second."
