Dear Me....

26 Dec 2007 Derby 1-2 Liverpool - EPL

BBC - Steven Gerrard's last-gasp goal spared Liverpool's blushes at lowly Derby - Fernando Torres' superb goal had given Liverpool an early lead as the Spaniard scored after beating two defenders. But Liverpool failed to take a number of chances and Jay McEveley sent an angled shot past Jose Reina to equalise midway through the second half. Gerrard then crashed the ball against the bar, but with time running out the Liverpool captain was on hand to score after Lewis Price saved from Torres.

Torres Double As Reds Back To Winning

22 Dec 2007 Liverpool 4-1 Portsmouth - EPL

BBC - Yossi Benayoun fired the Reds ahead with a powerful volley and Pompey's Sylvain Distin inadvertently deflected home for an own goal to make it 2-0. Benjani's slick control and finish made it 2-1 shortly after the break. But Fernando Torres' calm sidefoot restored the Red's two-goal lead and his late volley completed the win.

Yossi: "We played a great game against a strong rival in Portsmouth and it was an important win for us after we lost to Man United." "It was good to get back to winning ways and to prove that we can still go to the end of the season. So overall I think it was a good performance for us." "I enjoyed the goal and I caught it well but I'd have to give credit to Harry Kewell because he delivered a great cross from the left to pick me out. It gave us the start we needed and we went on from there."

Rafa's Rotation Pay Again

19 Dec 2007 Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool - Carling Cup QF

BBC - Both sides had missed gilt-edged chances in a tight first half with Chelsea's Frank Lampard and Liverpool's Lucas Leiva having shots saved. But Lampard atoned for his error when his strike was deflected in off Jamie Carragher before Crouch saw red for a reckless tackle on John Mikel Obi. Andriy Shevchenko lashed in an angled shot to secure Chelsea's win.

I feel sorry for those away fans at Stamford Bridge. They were sining throughout the game yet the team didn't even have a starting line-up which shows they are bothered with the Cup.

Isn't It Just Familiar?

16 Dec 2007 Liverpool 0-1 Man Utd - EPL

liverpoolfc.tv - Just like in the same fixture last season, Rafa's side dominated their much vaunted opponents, but they succumbed to a sucker punch from Tevez on the stroke of half time. Liverpool created most of the game's best chances and United twice cleared off the line, but the defending champions stole the points in one of their few attacks.

Through To The Last 16!

11 Dec 2007 Marseille 0-4 Liverpool - CL Group Stage

BBC - Liverpool overwhelmed Marseille to win a third successive Champions League Group A game and reach the last 16 - Steven Gerrard won a penalty on four minutes and although his spot-kick was saved by Steve Mandanda, the Liverpool captain crashed home the rebound. Fernando Torres then scored a superb solo goal, beating a posse of Marseille players before curling the ball in. Early in the second half Dirk Kuyt swept home a third and in stoppage time Ryan Babel broke clear for the fourth.

First Defeat of The Season

8 Dec 2007 Reading 3-1 Liverpool - EPL

BBC - Stephen Hunt's penalty put Reading in front after Jamie Carragher fouled Brynjar Gunnarsson, but Steven Gerrard soon equalised with a cool finish. Liverpool hit the bar through Gerrard, but Kevin Doyle's glancing header on 58 minutes put Reading back in front. James Harper scored a fine third and Reading, with the help of the post, kept the Reds at bay for the remainder.

Is it just me? I don't blame Rafa for his selection or changes for this game. I know it's a strange startinig line-up as well as the formation, but...we've got a Champions League game in the midweek which we can't afford losing, and five days later, bloody Man Utd at home, and then away to Chelsea three days after!! We certainly need to rest some key players. Is it too early for Hobbs? No. Don't you think it is a good idea resting Hyypia for the next two really important games? We wouldn't want Hobbs to come in for either Marseille or Man Utd game do we? And to replace Torres, Gerrard or Carra, why not? I was really worried seeing Torres went down, and I believe Rafa was too. I honestly don't want to be out of Champions League or Carling Cup or losing to the Mancs at home for 3 Premierleage points against Reading where the ref was being a jerk and the cross-bars went funny with us.

2 Dec 2007 Liverpool 4-0 Bolton - EPL

BBC - Steven Gerrard created both first-half goals, first sending over a free-kick that was headed in by Sami Hyypia. After Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka missed an open goal, Gerrard rolled a pass into the path of Fernando Torres who chipped keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen. The Liverpool captain added a third with a second-half penalty after Abdoulaye Meite fouled Peter Crouch, and Ryan Babel tapped in the fourth.
