11 Goals In 3 Games

16 Dec 2006 Charlton 0-3 Liverpool - EPL

BBC - A third-minute Xabi Alonso penalty gave the Reds the lead after Djimi Traore's high tackle on Jermaine Pennant. The visitors wasted plenty of chances and were almost punished when Hermann Hreidarsson shot over an empty net. Darren Ambrose and Darren Bent also gave the Reds late scares but a Craig Bellamy volley and Steven Gerrard curler secured a win for the visitors.

Rafa: "We have better balance now. We have the balance between defence and attack, we are creating a lot of chances and we don't give too many chances away It was a good game. We created a lot of opportunities and scored three goals, but we could have scored more. In the first 15 minutes we had five chances, but we needed that second goal. Normally in these games you can make a mistake and they can get a draw. We planned to use Bellamy's pace today and he was always a threat running at defenders and creating spaces for other players."

Bellamy: "We knew the second goal was vital. It took us a while to get it, but when we did we knew it was all over. While there was only one goal in it, it didn't matter that we were dominating and Charlton missed a good chance just before I scored."
