A 'Big Thank-You' From Rafa

28 Nov 2007 Liverpool 4-1 FC Porto - CL Group Stage

BBC - Torres headed in Steven Gerrard's corner to give Liverpool the lead, but Porto equalised with a header of their own, Lisandro Lopez nodding home. Liverpool huffed and puffed in search of the second goal and on 78 minutes Torres curled a shot into the net. Steven Gerrard's penalty made it 3-1 after Milan Stepanov's handball, with Peter Crouch heading in a fourth.

Rafa: "I want to say thank you to our supporters because I think that they were as always magnificent. The most important thing is the team so I say thank you for the support. To the players it was important as I said before the game and it was also for me, so I say a thank you, a big thank you."

Carra on Torres: "He is a world-class striker and he's probably up there with anyone now in striking terms. I only have to mark him in training, thankfully. It's raw pace and strength that he's got and that will cause defences problems. It was a big relief when he got the second goal because when it's 1-1 anything can happen. It was a great goal by Fernando, showing what a top player he is. It was a great performance from him. He's been outstanding all season but he's done it in the Champions League and in a big pressure game like that. He looks like becoming the 20-goal a season striker we've been crying out for but it's not just that, it's the work he puts in. He puts himself about and I think people appreciate the graft he puts in. Even if he doesn't score he makes it really tough for defenders. He's a great lad as well but as long as he's scoring goals it doesn't matter what he is!"

Gerrard: "The most important thing tonight was getting the job done. We can play better but give them credit. Porto have quality players and are well organised, but once we scored the second goal they fell apart and we got the third and fourth. The fans are like having an extra man. They might not realise it but they make a big difference."

That's Steven Gerrard!

24 Nov 2007 Newcastle 0-3 Liverpool -EPL

BBC - Gerrard, booed by Magpies fans for his part in England's Euro 2008 qualifying failure, answered the jeers by powering in a 30-yard shot for the Reds. Fernando Torres hit the post after Newcastle keeper Shay Given escaped a red card for blocking his initial shot with his arm outside the area. Dirk Kuyt bundled in a Reds second before Ryan Babel slid in the third.

EL NINO!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 Nov 2007 Liverpool 2-0 Fulham - EPL

BBC - Fernando Torres' superb individual goal and a Steven Gerrard penalty pushed Liverpool up to fourth as Fulham again imploded in the last 10 minutes - Torres twisted and turned to get the better of Aaron Hughes, before beating goalkeeper Antti Niemi with a low shot. Peter Crouch, who hit the bar with a first-half header, won the penalty when he was fouled by Carlos Bocanegra and Gerrard's spot-kick was unstoppable. Niemi was superb for Fulham in goal, making a series of top-class saves.

...What a legend!!!!!!!!!!

Short of Goals? How About 8-0?

6 Nov 2007 Liverpool 8-0 Besiktas - CL group stage

BBC - Peter Crouch slotted in after his first shot was saved to open the scoring. Benayoun took down a cross and lashed home before twice side-footing in after John Arne Riise and Steven Gerrard had strikes parried into his path. Gerrard powered in a shot, Ryan Babel backheeled in a deft goal and then deflected in a Besiktas clearance before Crouch nodded in for an eighth.

Another Boring Draw

3 Nov 2007 Blackburn 0-0 Liverpool - EPL

BBC - Rovers should have been in front by the interval after twice hitting the woodwork through David Bentley's effort and David Dunn's wonderful shot. The game was more even in the second half, and both Christopher Samba and Dirk Kuyt could have done better for the visitors in promising positions. Late on Brad Friedel twice saved Steven Gerrard shots, Peter Crouch went close with a header and Kuyt missed badly.

Don't you just feel we were a totally different class from the earlier game yesterday: Arsenal vs Man Utd? I enjoyed watching them if I'm being honest with you. They play really good football at the moment and if we want to be competitive we've got to improve our level. We looked average..or even worse.

Good news.. glad to see Harry Kewell made his way back.

Return

Hello, people! Thanks for comments/messages and supports of this blog. I'll soon be back posting again. I started my first full-time job last month at a language centre here in Taiwan and things are going ok for me. I'm still planning to go back to England someday for another degree but it's not that easy as it used to be. But we all need a dream don't we, something that you want to work hard for, or your life would be just pointless. I hope everyone is fine tho our mighty reds isn't doing so well at the moment but keep the faith lads, we'll fight back!
